Overround and book margin on sports markets

Overround is the sum of implied probabilities on a market minus 100%. Decimal odds O imply 1/O. If a two-way board is 1.91 / 1.91, each side is about 52.4% and the sum is ~104.7% — roughly 4.7% overround. That extra is the book’s structural margin on the price board, not a tip about who wins.

A 1X2 board usually carries more overround than a two-way moneyline because three prices must clear. Asian handicap and totals are still two-way after the line is set, so their overround is comparable to other two-outcome markets — still not zero. Vig (juice) is the same idea expressed as the cost of taking both sides.

When you compare prices, compute overround yourself from the decimals on screen and remember settlement rules still sit in that book’s terms.
